The Calling of Saint Matthew
Perhaps the most famous painting by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. It is full of messages and symbolism and content worthy of deep spiritual reflection. In Paul’s presentation, we learn of the combative personality of Caravaggio and the unfortunate event that caused him to live in exile from Rome in 1606 and spent the rest of his life seeking pardon for his mistake.
Reflecting the Crucifixion
The closest we can come to a definition of God, is “GOD IS LOVE.” The crucifixion was the start of the chain of salvific events. Come explore the work of some of history’s greatest artists who expressed God’s Love for us in the crucifixion.
Jonah, Will you Answer God’s Call?
Jonah repelled the mission God called him to do. He even tried to run in the opposite direction, but God was persistent and Jonah saved 120,000 people. The “Book of the Prophet Jonah,” gets very little recognition in the Catholic Mass although its four chapters are full of wonderful messages of how God can work though us if we say yes to his call to ministry. Come see theology major, Paul Montenero, analyze the book of Jonah using the art of Michelangelo, Doré and more.
Stations of the Cross Through Art
Encounter the Stations of the Cross from a different view: using the 1991 alternate stations approved by Pope John Paul II. In this presentation, we reflect on Christ’s Passion through the artful eyes of famous artists such as: Bellini, Caravaggio, Doré, Fra Angelico, Tissot, and more.
